We are learning the letter O for the first time, and since M was the first letter we learned it was easy to work on the word Mom. I taught the kids "Tap it Out". It's a reading strategy where you touch your pointer finger to your thumb while saying the first sound in the word, your middle finger to your thumb for the second sound, and your ring finger to your thumb for the third sound. Then you tap them faster and faster until you slide your thumb from one sound to the next while you say the word. "I" demonstrates pink sticky note fingers with the letters on them. We made it concrete for the word Mom by writing the letters on our fingers.
We also found the words and letters that we knew in our new book.
"I" and "M" use their pointer fingers to read their M Books.
Art today was "Wet Chalk Pastel Drawings". We soaked our chalk and explored with how that made the texture different. I love "R's" picture of Mario and "M's" picture of the rainbow.
We also continued in our Touch Math curriculum, focusing on matching the correct number of objects to how many fingers were being held up.
