Happy Mother's Day!

Today was such a busy fun day.  We had tons of fun making our surprises for Mother's Day.  If you're a mom and don't want a sneak peak you shouldn't read any further until after you've opened your gift.

We started the day in story time reading stories about moms and talking about how our moms are different from each other and perfect for each of us.  We talked about all the things they do for us and how grateful we are to them.  Then we headed to the table to make them some special art.  It was a painting fun mess and they turned out SO cute!

 We also worked on our letter Q activity page from the Amazing Action Alphabet and after our art work was done we wrapped our presents for our moms.  It's fun to use tape and wrapping paper in preschool :).  We also chatted about numerals 0-9 in math time.

 This afternoon was so much fun.  We reviewed the sounds of /ch/ and /th/ and introduced /sh/.  I love the Moffatt Girls Digraph Word Work!  Simple pages to work on a variety of skills.  We talked more about digraphs as well as long vowels and reading strategies in our guided reading groups.

 Math was hilarious today.  I don't even have any pictures.  I start the lesson about basic addition and they look at me like I'm crazy.  One kiddo pipes up: "5+5=10 and 10+10=20."  Well, needless to say my 1+1=2 basic intro wasn't quite on the right level so math was over and we'll hop into more interesting math on Monday.  Boy these kids get smart fast!  We also made lovely painting art for our Mother's Day gifts.  Don't scroll down if you don't want to see it :).

Preschool Mother's Day

We had a fantastic time in preschool talking about Mother's Day.  We enjoyed working on our Mother's Day art project for most of the morning.  They turned out so cute!  We ate snack surrounding the tomato plants that have now taken over my kitchen table since we've got a bit of a cold snap going on outside.  Snow in May?  You've gotta love Colorado to be able to endure this crazy weather.  

We're also working on letter Q this week in our beginning reader series.  Be sure to enter to win the beginning reader books by Saturday night!  We have a great 2 weeks of preschool review coming up as we prepare for our end of year celebration and summer!

Mother's Day - A Tot School Project

We had absolute fun this week in tot school talking all about mothers for Mother's Day.  I have to start of with this awesome project we did.  If you don't have a Mother's Day idea yet you can simply do this!  We did a practice run in our notebooks before completing our final art on canvas. I used my Silhouette cutting machine to do the vinyl lettering on the canvas boards that says "Thumbody Loves You!"  It turned out really cute.  Then I used a permanent marker to draw some stems and leaves and let the kids loose with the large ink pads.  I think their little flower gardens turned out great!  (I'm sorry if I've just spoiled the surprise for mothers of my students!) 

We had a lot of fun playing with the baby dolls, dress ups, doctor kit and tool kits doing all the things moms do.  We ended our day outside enjoying the fresh spring air.  We had a fantastic day!

Wednesday Preschool - Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day from Preschool A!  We started our day with a little painting project. If you'd rather not see what your Mother's Day gift is please don't read this post till after you open your gift. 

 Yes, it involved painting feet as well :)

 We reviewed the letter Q and started reviewing all the letters of the alphabet.  Once we caught a letter we had to say the letter's name and the sound it makes.

 We've loved reading this book a few times throughout the year "Mouse Makes Words".  It's a fun one to follow along and practice some basic reading.

 Afternoon preschool started in much the same way - painting feet.

 I thought these turned out really cute.

 We've picked up on on the numbers 20-100 really well but still seem to be struggling with a few of the teen numbers.  We played a memory match game with the numbers 10-20 to help us with the teen numbers.

 We're still talking about /oo/ and today we talked about the sound it makes in words like "good" and "brook".

Mother's Day - Tot School Tuesday

How lovely was the weather today?  Just perfect for a day outside in my opinion.  We enjoyed talking about mothers and Mother's Day today.  We strung necklaces with chunky beads and played with the bugs as well because the beads and bugs were all mixed together when I pulled out the buckets this morning :)

 We also got to play dress up.  Lil'GalBR was the first to jump in and get all fancy.

 We spent a lot of time working on our Mother's Day presents (if you don't want to know what it is until you open it STOP reading here!).

 Everyone was asked to take off shoes and socks.  We were going to be painting our feet.

 We did a trial run in our art notebooks first before making the ones for our moms.  They turned out so cute!

 After each painting of toes they were given a baby wipe to wipe off their feet.  You may find very painted toes when you take off their shoes and socks tonight.

 Snack time of peppers and pears.  Yum!

 All our finished art hanging on the fence to dry.  This hanging rack from Ikea is the best investment I've ever made.  I like the one inside in the preschool room, but the one outside makes outside school days that much easier!

 BR and EH were playing with the Mother's Day tot pack. They were taking off the flowers and matching them back to the correct color.

 AD's sock was missing and I loved how VB looked for it.  It was almost like doing yoga :)

 After our art project was done we got to wrap our presents.  I cut out a large piece of wrapping paper and then the girls made it fancy by cutting all around the edges.  They were very focused and LOVED this activity.

I can't believe I didn't think to snap any pictures of the taping of the presents.  I helped with 3 key pieces of tape, but then was handing out tape like crazy for everyone to finish taping their own.  They were so cute and very excited about their gifts for their moms.  I hope the moms enjoy them as well!
