Healthy Bodies and Preschool B

We had a very active morning this morning in preschool A.  We were moving and shaking, jumping and balancing.  We were working on the letter K and learning all about healthy bodies.  We played with 3D shapes that had silly pictures of germs on them.  We read all about the different parts of our bodies (brain, heart, skin, bones, muscles) and how they are important for us to keep healthy.  We read all about germs and about how they live on the ground, in the air and everywhere!  We learned the importance of cleaning and washing our hands with warm water and soap.
We read stories and drew pictures of how to keep ourselves healthy.  The art below says "This is how I wash my hands".  We also played with blocks and would randomly have everyone hold up a cube.  By the time they were done building their city they all knew what a cube was!
This afternoon we worked oh so hard on our Ready2Read lessons. I was super impressed with one kiddo who was struggling a bit a few weeks back and has reached amazing new heights of understanding in the past couple weeks.  It's so fun to see it click and become fun to read.  We read a fun story called "Tom" by Tommie dePaula.  It's such a cute story about Tommie and his grandpa Tom.  They have some fun with chicken feet so it seemed appropriate for today since we just got new baby chickens.  They all drew pictures and wrote about their favorite parts in their journals and were (once again) so disappointed that we didn't have enough time to share our work with the class.
We moved into exploring the 100 chart for the first time today.  We did some coloring of it looking for patterns, such as columns that has the numbers 1-9 in order or the same number (like 1) in the units place in the whole column.  We pointed to the numbers and counted out loud to 100 as a group.  Practice counting your 100 chart out loud at home.

Healthy Bodies

We had so much fun in school today!  We talked about how to have a healthy body by exercising, eating healthy, drinking water, and washing our hands.  We practiced reading our letter K Amazing Action Alphabet book, naming our colors and our letter sounds.
We practiced our handwriting, drew in our journals all the ways that we can be healthy.  Talked about spheres and cubes with our fun germs printables and danced for exercise.  It was so much fun!

Healthy Bodies

We had a great day talking all about how germs make us sick and how we can get rid of them to stay healthy.  We talked about washing hands, flushing the potty, coughing in our elbows, mopping the floor and putting leftover food in the fridge.  We read lots of books today and had so much fun looking at the pictures of the silly looking germs.  We learned the letter K today with karate kicks.  We each got a sticker for our shirts and talked about healthy body exercise.  The kids really loved making healthy "food" in our play kitchen.  They cooked and sorted all the food and dishes.  We also made 3D shapes out of paper (they have cute germ pictures on them, find them in the tot pack) and built with blocks (as 3D shape introduction).   It was a fantastic day.

Tot School Thursday 3/7 - Healthy Bodies

As we learn about having healthy bodies toddlers learn how to take care of themselves, which includes buckling and buttons.
We explored the doctor set and pretended to help everyone feel healthy.
We've learned the game of hopscotch and though many toddlers are still working on getting their feet off the ground they loved this game.  We don't play with all of the rules yet, but enjoy hopping and counting none the less.

Climbing and being physically active is an important part of having a healthy body.

We played this fun "Cover the Owies" game which I think is from 2 Teaching Mommies.
We also learned that the food we put into our bodies is very important.  EMan liked playing chef and cooking up all the healthy food.

Healthy Bodies - Wednesday Preschool 3/6

Healthy bodies is a great theme to get moving!
We learned about playing hopscotch and it was an instant hit.  I created our hopscotch board from a piece of scrap fabric and a permanent marker.  That way it's easy to move anywhere we want it to be and makes and outdoor game easily into an indoor game.

We've been introducing 3D shapes and today we made a germ cube.  Then we needed to determine if a cube would roll down a ramp or not.
They don't roll, but they do stack nicely!

Afternoon preschool (Preschool B) has been working on counting to 100!

Healthy Bodies - Tot School Tuesday 3/5/2013

For our healthy bodies theme we wanted to get our bodies moving.  I ran some painters tape along the carpet as a walking path. We could walk on a straight line or on a zigzag.  It's like a balance beam without the falling off part :)
We need to be able to take care of our bodies to keep them healthy.  Part of taking care of our bodies is being able to dress ourselves.
Playing hopscotch is a great large motor game.  I created our hopscotch from a piece of scrap fabric and a permanent marker.  It works great to roll out any time we'd like to play.
Playing doctor!

Rolling the ball down the slide!

Tracing the germs in the Healthy Bodies Tot pack.
Playing a "Cover the Owies" game from 2 Teaching Mommies.

Karate - Monday Preschool

Today we got to talk about Karate and the letter K.  We started upstairs tracing our names.  We're really improving on writing our names but I'd love to encourage you to have your child trace at home a minimum of once a week, daily would be optimal.

Next we did a shared reading of "Mouse Makes Words".  We talked about all the good things that readers do to figure out the words and did them together.
We look at the letters with our eyes.
We point to the letters with our fingers.
Our mouth makes the sounds of the letters.
Our ear listen for what the word could be.
 Playing on Starfall.com, letter K.

We broke into smaller reading groups to go over what we had done as a whole group with our books.

We also worked on the letter K book about Doctor Kim who has a big job helping people.

Letter K art from the Amazing Action Alphabet.
We've just finished learning our 2D shapes and today we got to jump into 3D shapes.  Today's shape was the sphere.  We played with all sorts of spheres to find out if they rolled (they do), if they bounce (they do), and if they stack (they don't).

We're now starting to learn the patterns for Mary Had a Little Lamb on the piano.  It's so much fun watching them explore.

Afternoon preschool is spending the week reviewing all the long vowels we've learned so far.  They got new homework to make a smore.  When making words on the smore map please DON'T worry about correcting incorrect spellings.  If it sounds like a word when they sound it out with a long vowel sound, let it be.  For example: "Bote" instead of "Boat" is completely acceptable.  We've only focused on the silent "e" at the end and not vowel teams like "oa" yet.
We played Starfall Speedway, which is a fantastic review game although it doesn't have any long vowel words.  We practiced our sight words and our digraphs (sh, ch, wh, th).
 Counting to 100.
Coloring our favorite numbers on our 100 chart.
We practiced reading some long vowel words.  I have some books on the way from our most recent book order that will be MUCH more engaging to our afternoon preschool kids, but these will have to do in the mean time.

Art was full of crayons, scissors and glue.  We made some great cards, a haunted house, and a ladder!
