Trees

This morning in preschool we had fun talking about the different types of trees and how they change (or don't change) through the seasons.  We drew trees and learned the letter X.  We worked on our super fun X book "Max" from the Amazing Action Alphabet.  We did leaf rubbing pictures and learned the number 7.

This afternoon in preschool we had a really fun lesson about our reading strategies (what we can do when we're reading and we are stuck).  We worked on utilizing those strategies in new guided reading books that are a bit trickier for us.  In art today we made our own puzzles.  They were super fun and are REALLY hard to put back together.  We continued our work on numerals and the 100 chart.  Today we also started talking a little about comparing numerals with "greater than", "less than" and "equal to". 

Trees Are Plants - A Preschool Lesson

We love spring time and are starting our study of trees and plants.  Today we talked all about trees.  We read books about how trees help clean the air and how they are homes for many different animals.  We also learned that trees are used to make paper and we should be careful with the amount of paper we use because we don't want all the trees to be gone.  We talked about letter X today and the kids got a kick out of the ASL x looking just like Captain Hook's Hook.  It also works out that we can use that same sign to take our X-Ray pictures.  Sweet!

 We learned about the numeral 5 today and once again enjoyed jumping from numeral to numeral on our TouchMath Step Numerals. We had a great day practicing our reading and learning about the trees around us.

Monday Preschool - Trees

Monday was a great day learning all about trees, the letter X and the number 7!

 We spent a lot of time in the beginning of class working on puzzles. If your child struggles with 24 piece puzzles I'd encourage you to play them often at home.

 Playing fun math games.  We have the Math Mat Challenge game where it says a number and you have to push down on the correct number before the timer runs out.

We also played a racing game.  Two children at a time were given a number to run and touch on the bulletin board.

 Afternoon preschool is continuing to work on representing numbers with base ten blocks.

 We've also finished all the Starfall.com books and are ready to move fully into leveled reading and decodable readers with specific phonics.  We spent some time journaling about whatever was on our minds.  Since these kids are so great with their alphabet it's expected that they always write a little bit about what they drew.
