Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun

Recently I was the winner of an autographed copy of Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun from the blog Chalk Talk.

We started Lil' Learners on Thursday by reading the book.  Everyone got a kick out of it, even the littlest were focused in on the story.  In case you're new, or you just didn't know, Lil' Learners is an activity I host every week for my playgroup aimed at teaching kids in the "too young for real preschool" age.  It's a lot of fun and helps me focus activities for EMan's age group of friends.

Then we moved on to activities to help children develop self concept and self worth.
We made a friendship quilt.
We did handprints/footprints of moms and kids to compare and talk about size and how mom has hands and child has hands.
I took photos of the family groups as they came in the door, printed and laminated them, and then had the moms cut their photo into puzzles, we had 3-6 piece puzzles and the kids enjoyed putting them together.

I have a set of emotion bean bags and bowls with faces that we played with.  I also got out the dolls for role playing and free play.

We played a blindfold game by holding a tie up to the older children's eyes and having them feel another person and try to guess who it was.  The activity was fun, though the kids didn't catch on the way I thought they would - most decided that peeking was the best solution :)
Thanks for a great day in Lil' Learners!  I hope everyone comes back next week for our study on Gingerbread Friends!
