February Tot Packs

Getting ready for February? Tot Packs are ready for you!

I create all of my lesson plans to share digitally with other homeschooling families and small classrooms.  If your child attends Little Adventures Preschool you can easily supplement their learning at home by downloading the lesson plans.  It will also give you a good idea about what we covered.  I always plan more than we will ever actually get to so there is often a great idea within the plans that you can share with your child to extend their learning.  You can find all of my toddler and preschool lesson plans here:http://www.teachersnotebook.com/shop/LittleAdventuresPreschool

Tot Packs 25-28 Tot packs are about 20 pages in length. They each have 2 pages of activity ideas, book suggestions, and links to the materials I use. You can certainly use all or part of the lesson plans.  The printable pages include songs, matching games, drawing games and other activities. Tot packs are designed to be a first introduction to math concepts, letters, shapes and colors. They are not meant to obtain mastery in any subject. Let them be a guide for educational play between you and your child.

Nursery Rhymes - Tot School Thursday

We love tot school on Thursday.  Were so active with more boys than our Tuesday class. 

 We loved playing the Baa, Baa Purple Sheep game from the Nursery Rhymes tot pack.

 CJ has been working on some "homework" in the office during parts of tot school.  This is mostly for my sanity since we have a small space inside to play and it can get wild.

 We played "This Little Piggy" using our fingers instead of toes since we were all wearing shoes.  They thought it was funny that the last little piggy tickled them.

 We played a game based off of Little Bo Peep and hid little sheep all around the room and then had to search all over to find them.

Making the sheep from our nursery rhymes.  Today we used batting in stead of cotton balls.  Mostly because I was out of cotton balls, but it turns out that I liked it much better.  We ripped it into pieces and made our sheep very fuzzy.

Wednesday Preschool

Wednesday preschool was a review day for letters and patterns.  It was such a nice day that we played outside for quite a bit. 

 It was fun to watch how they interacted with each other and reflect upon how much they've grown as friends throughout the year.

 Back inside we practiced our letters and reading books we've already been introduced to.

 I'm impressed with how well they're sounding out words and remembering to do what good readers do.

 While we had small group reading time the group not working with me got to play on the Starfall.com app on the iPad.

 Preschool B worked on short U and reading "'ck" as a single sound.  We did some vowel sorting and next week we'll move on to the first introduction of vowel teams in a_e teams.  Wish us luck!

 PreB kids got their Starfall Reading Award for completing the first 5 books in the series. We practiced writing the titles of the books and using a finger to make an appropriate sized space between words.

 We had a bunch of pictures with differing medial vowel sounds.  The kids cut out the pictures and then organized them according to the vowel sound they heard in the middle of the word.

 ... and then had to sort them according to vowel sound. This is actually fairly tricky - notice CJ's head to the table frustration :P

Tot School Tuesday - Nursery Rhymes

VB was the first to jump into the "Little Bo Peep" game and hide the sheep all around the room this morning in tot school.  Just look at that grin!  She's off to hiding them!

 We went around the circle two times playing "Baa, Baa Purple Sheep" from the Nursery Rhymes II Tot Pack.

 "Hickory, Dickory Dock"

 We painted glue on our sheep and then put cotton balls on them.  Some decided to "paint" their hands too.  It became a very sticky mess :)

  We also did some water color painting in our notebooks.

 At the end of the day we played "Musical Hearts".  It's like musical chairs, but there are always enough hearts for everyone to stand on one when the music stops.  It's a great game that the kids love and it takes them a few runs to get the idea of dancing and then jumping onto a heart when the music stops, but they loved it!

Worm Weaving

I'm currently working on the Rain, Rainbows, Mud and Worms Tot Pack for April.  I'm just so excited about it that I have to share this cute weaving page.  This also serves as a visual tutorial so when you get the pack you can figure out how to put it together and play with it.

There are two pages for this printable that you want to glue together first (glue the top and left hand sides of the pages together).  Then laminate them.  Cut the bottom and right hand side of lamination completely off.  Then cut each page individually on the printed lines (easier said than done).

 To play the weaving worms game simply thread the dirt over and under all of the worms starting at the left hand side.

 Do the opposite pattern with the next column of dirt.
