Preschool Dr. Seuss

We had such a blast learning all about Dr. Seuss today.  One of the little girls immediately piped up about taking her younger brother to the doctor to get shots, it was so cute.  We read quite a few Dr. Seuss books and CJ was even able to read them "The Cat in the Hat".  We had a blast eating hard boiled green eggs and bacon for snack (that's like Green Eggs and Ham, right?).  We also really enjoyed playing with Oobleck and coloring our Dr. Seuss pages.  We learned some really important reading strategies today and you can check out the preschool pack to find them (this pack is free, so be sure to stop by and get it today!).  Since Dr. Seuss is a great time to focus on readings skills, we talked all about what to do when we get to a word we don't know.  There are fun reading strategy cards you can print and practice while reading.  What a fantastic day of school!

Tot School Dr. Seuss Day

We always have so much fun talking about Dr. Seuss around his birthday each year.  We read oodles of stories by Dr. Seuss and played on Seussville.com on the SmartBoard.  We started making Popsicle stick "Thing 1 and Thing 2" but ran out of time to complete the project.
We made a fun fish hand print craft that we then practiced "reading".  The kids thought it was fantastic.  We had "Green Eggs and Ham" (eggs and bacon) for snack time, played with Oobleck (a fantastic sensory experience that is neither solid nor liquid) and pretended to the be Cat in the Hat with our paper bag hats!  What great fun!

Vehicles 2-25

We had so much fun learning letter R and all about vehicles.  We played with all the road signs and made our own steering wheels.  They loved driving around all the shapes on the floor (made of painters tape).  While driving on each shape they walked the outline and said the name of the shape over and over again.  We also got to "drive our race cars" by saying /r-r-r/ and running around the cones set up as a track.  For art we enjoyed painting with cars!
We gave all the cars a bath in the sink after playing with them in the paint.  We had a fun game where we had to sort all of the attribute blocks into the correct shape on the floor.  We worked on our shapes song and played with the parachute and shape beanbags.  We had such a fun day!

Wheels 2-20

We had a great day talking all about wheels again on Thursday.  We've been reviewing all the letters we've learned so far and all the kids are doing so great!  We sang the "Wheels on the Bus" what felt like 100 times and they loved it!  We also played in the dirt with the construction trucks, worked on using shapes to draw different cars and played the piano on the SmartBoard practicing Hot Cross Buns.  It was such a great day!

Wheels!

We had a great time in tot school today.  We talked all about wheels and played with wheels in many different ways.  We were building train tracks, making roads in the dirt with diggers and dumpers and driving our very own cardboard cars. We had such a fantastic day!

Wheels!

We had a great day of review yesterday playing with wheels of all sorts. We read a bunch of books about different types of wheels in the world.  We spent a lot of time working on our reading roads from the preschool pack "Wheels".  It covers all the letters we've already learned in words we've already been exposed to.  The point is to drive a car under each letter and make that letter sound.  You drive the car faster and faster and blend the letter sounds to read the word.  It was fantastic!  They are all reading so well!
We also practiced left and right and played Hot Cross Buns with both hands one octave apart on the piano.  We had a great day!

Skinnamarink - A Preschool Presentation

We learn "Skinnamarink" on Valentine's Day in preschool.  We only spend one day on it and this year we have very quiet kids, but here is our best performance:

Preschool Valentines

We had so much fun on Valentine's Day!  There is a great game in the Valentine Preschool pack with all the CVC words and sight words we've learned throughout the year printed on little heart balloons.  We had those balloons cut out and then taped them onto heart shaped helium balloons.  We ran around the classroom catching balloons and reading the word on them.  Once the word was read we taped it to the white board.  It was such a fun Valentine way to practice our reading!  We also played with the Valentine play dough, decorated Valentine bags and gave Valentines to all our preschool friends!

Toddler Valentines

We had such a great Valentine's Day in tot school this week.  We played all sorts of games and activities, read a zillion books, and did a few great crafts.  The girls loved playing toss with the Valentine heart rice bag.  We played with the rice sensory tray and the Valentine Starfall game.  We enjoyed our Valentine snack with a fancy tablecloth and all.
We had some great art activities making love bugs and contact paper hearts.  We ended the day with everyone passing out their Valentines to their friends.  We went one at a time and practiced saying "Happy Valentine's Day!" to each person.  It was so cute!

Sun and Space

We had so much fun learning all about the Sun and space on Tuesday.  We're learning the letter U and exploring shapes.  We made "U the Pup" puppets from the Amazing Action Alphabet, practiced the piano (Hot Cross Buns), made shapes from our bodies and walked on tape shapes on the ground.  We read many books about the sun, earth and space.  We also watched "Why Does the Sun Shine?".

Hearts

We had so much fun ushering in February with our hearts theme.  We got to play with many of the sensory items and had so much fun.  We played with colored rice, tweezers, and play dough.  We're working on learning our shapes this month and had a great time talking about the heart and square shapes.  We continued to work on letter G and playing Hot Cross Buns on the piano.

Toddler Hearts

We had such a fun and messy day learning all about hearts in tot school. We are working on identifying, sorting and classifying 2D shapes through the month of February.  We worked on the heart, circle and square in tot school today.  Be pointing out all the shapes at home and in your environment to your toddler.   We spent much of the day playing with play dough, rollers and cookie cutters.  Many of our supplies were colored purple today since it seems to be the color that gets left out most often and is taking up my cupboard space :).  We played in our rice sensory bin with heart containers putting them together and filling them with rice was certainly a big hit.  We also painted with shape stamps and used the tweezers to pick up small heart shapes.  We read a book about it raining hearts and making Valentines to prep for next week.  It was a great day!

Giggles and Gumdrops

I love giggles and gumdrops day.  We read all these silly books and practice giggling, which then inspires more giggling and then we simply giggle all day long.  We started the day sorting out our hearts to put together our February calendar.  We worked on finding each number and putting it in order on the calendar.  We learned about the circle and how it has now straight sides or corners.  We also got to graph gumdrops and then make them into different shapes with toothpicks.  It was so much fun!
